The Beauty of Motherhood

Claudia and I have only shot a handful of maternity sessions. When a former model we had worked with contacted us to shoot, we said "absolutely!" It's easy to shoot and process the traditional, soft in a window, mother dressed in white robes and close ups of the mother's tummy. We wanted to try to blend a bit of her high fashion look with her maternity and show how truely beautiful motherhood is. So here's our attempt.

Urban toddler fun

Shooting with toddlers is always interesting. You never really know what you're going to get. Take a two year old, mix it with downtown, early morning and a random new environment and you're really rolling the dice. But, we don't like boring photography! Eventually, it comes together. Here's our latest shoot in down town Denver.



We're really starting to like this Urban style for kids portraits. Most parents today don't want the standard backdrops and posed scenes. The editorial style is much more interesting and fun. The buildings, architecture, infrastructure, all provide for the most unusual and interesting backdrops.



Today was also the worldwide Photographer walk, put on by Scott Kelby. We must have had 70 photographers surrounding us as we shot. They were just wandering around shooting randomly all over downtown today.

The 4th of July

The 4th of July always holds a special place for me. Summer was full on and the nights were long. It was one of the few times, as kids, we got to stay up most of the night and run like crazy. Anyway, we wanted to share some of our neighborhood 4th of July with everyone.


The weather and down pour was kind enough to hold off until the picnic and games were finished and then kind enough to let up prior to shooting off the fireworks!


Anyway, hope you enjoyed your 4th as much as we did.

Special Events

Claudia and I have taken a set of pictures every mother's day for the last four years. We show up at the same park bench, in the same park (observatory park in Denver) and take a set of photos to remember our life during those years. We'll update this post every year. We love looking back one, two or three years and see how fast our daughter is changing and remembering the special events of each year. The years go by so quickly, we don't want to lose those memories and the special relationship that forms between a mother and her daughter.


If you to take these types of photos on your own, remember, late in the day creates that light that softens everything out and just a little flash on your camera makes sure you don't end up with dark faces on the front. You can get great light in the morning and in the afternoon, just pick your direction so the sun is creating that soft effect behind and around your subjects.

A studio has it's time and place, but outdoors provides a canvas for your memories that just can't be duplicated! Location photography is our favorite.
